I graduated from college in May and quickly launched into the journey of post-grad. By mid-June, I moved to Atlanta, started my first full-time job and found myself asking all too often: “What the heck is going on?”
So far, post-grad has been fun, instructive and somewhat liberating. But it’s also included its share of loneliness, uncertainty and longing for what I left behind.
In summary, this is a big transition, and it’s been way harder than I anticipated. What the heck?
And this, in hindsight, makes sense. Even if we’re living in the same town or state where we grew up or attended college, many of us are experiencing life outside of school for the first time in our remembered lives. Friends moved, or we moved, or both. We’re navigating a new space— the working world— and trying to find our footing. The people who used to live down the street, our people, now live halfway across the country.
We are experiencing a lot of change at once.
We may be the shiny recent grads in the office, and we may be entering this phase with energy, excitement and drive to step into what’s next … but what do we do when our steps falter, or when the path isn’t clear? What do we do when we’re feeling dull rather than bright, naïve rather than young and inspired?
The invitation: If any of the above resonates with you, Bright Young Things is your space. Consider me your inexperienced guide for the “what the heck” moments who, like you, is becoming a teeny bit more experienced each day.
The vibes: Sometimes serious and practical. Sometimes sarcastic and satirical. Sometimes just plain ol’ nostalgic.
The goal: Hopefully, we’ll learn a few things about the world, ourselves and each other, all while becoming a little bit brighter along the way.
Welcome, my friends, to Bright Young Things.
Fantastic ! This is a wonderful way to express and share what so many 20 somethings may be feeling !! Well done!
